Frank Hotchkiss to Run for Council?

The Santa Barbara County Republican Party website shows a calendar of events for the next month and includes a Santa Barbara Republican Club fundraiser on May 15th for Frank Hothckiss' campaign for city council. The interesting thing is that I wasn't aware that he had announced his candidacy yet. Maybe I am behind the times...

This isn't too big of a surprise as you might remember that in 2007, Citizen Stringer wrote about his chutzpah in refusing to engage voters via blogs.

What I remember about Frank Hotchkiss is that when Marymount School was trying to remodel he held up the process because he lived across the street from the school. His price for letting them go forward? Every night and weekend the hoops are taken down from the basketball courts so Frank won't be bothered by the sounds of kids playing basketball. It is still going on almost a decade later. You can drive by and check it out. Before Frank moved to town people had been playing hoops on those courts for decades. Gee, I wonder how he will be on youth issues? Hey Frank, still stand by your position?

Hotckiss may not have announced anything but that meeting notice needed to identify him for a reason. It also does not seem like a fundraiser at $23 per head for lunch.

Still, this is now a public domain notice that confirms his in the election race.

The real test is that Car-Guy Frank "Get-Out-Of-The-Gang-Or-Get-Out-Of-Santa-Barbara" Hotchkiss now has to file his legally required Statement of Intent with the SB city clerk office. To comply with state elections law, he has to file that before even thinking about collecting campaign contributions.

The comments at Edhat and Blogabarbara reveal just soooo much support or even basic interest in Hotchkiss for city council.

Sources say he did deal with the legally required filing of his Intent form.

Speaking of upcoming races can I just say---will all those running for office STOP CAPITALIZING and EXPLOITING this tragedy by sending out your "updates" which are nothing more than cut and paste jobs of public agency news releases---or posting updates on your campaign Facebook pages. Soooooooooooooooooo crass and tacky.

You also have Pritchett pontificating over at the Independent about how he wants to know how city leaders will deal with the public safety and budget considerations in the comments section of course. Guess he really is a politician, he always has been a self promoter but now he is adding bad timing and exploiting disaster to the list.

How does criticizing someone for criticizing others become self promotion?

Should we instead praise a candidate for praising the other candidates?

Somebody seems to be a little afraid of changing the paradigm that has paralyzed local government.

I do not think anything at all is wrong with wanting "to know how city leaders will deal with the public safety and budget considerations" when the city is grappling now and for the next couple of weeks on how to find another $10 million in the city budget.

Should we all be ignorant of that instead? I'm glad that Pritchett or anyone else wants to know about the city budget and what the city council is doing about it.

All the other city council candidates seem to have their head in the sand.

It was his timing and the fact he said he wanted to know how the others would address it, without any comment as to how he would. It was a small and attention seeking comment at the wrong time.

I initially thought David had some promise and was overcoming his inflated blogging commentator role of confrontation to offer rational statements. There is a time and place to say things like that, where he chose to do it was the wrong time and place in my opinion. Im done with 2nd chances its the same old David and he is out of consideration for me now, however if his type of politics appeals to you then thats great for you. We are all going to have many chances to pick the people who appeal to us this election and that can only be a good thing.

Not Amused, if you are so concerned with whatever you are concerned or not concerned about, then why don't you just contact this city council candidate directly instead of playing these games of anonymous commentary here?

This seems like you are the one running away from rational statements. Man up and just contact the candidate and confront him under your own name and an actual question instead of making obtuse references here in the last gasp of Blogabarbara.

So much for Frank Hotchkiss into obscurity, apparently.

Gee David, aka Homie I thought this still was a place to comment during the last gasp. Im not concerned anymore just not considering you as one of my choices anymore.

Whats so unrational about that, more power to your supporters and your campaign I just didnt like what I saw...my concern is saw you seeming to change from the blowhard with casutic commentary, seemed to be doing better but the latest comments reminded me about that saying "they dont change their spots". Why would I bother contacting you when I already know the answer?

Thanks Again Sara and bye!

the thing about blogs is that caustic sarcasm and arrogance still come through loud and clear even when the author is using a pseudonym. thats why its unwise for one of those authors to run for an elected position at the same time. the voice is unmistakably identifiable.
